So on my way into the city, I usually pick up a copy of the Metro NY free newspaper. I love it because you get the gist of stories. No one article takes more than ten minutes to read so I can usually blast through the whole paper right before I reach 86th street. This makes me feel super productive…kind of like when I read the Goosebumps book series as a kid…blow through a whole novel in a day, feel like a superstar for a week!
Anyways, I digress…
This morning, I was hanging out with my Metro on the 5 train and I came across this HILARIOUS article about Jennifer Love Hewitt and her very recent “un-Rules-like” behavior of propositioning an ex-Bachlorette contestant via twitter, flying out to meet him and then planting a big one on him, in public, in a effort to resuscitate their lifeless date. I cringed when I read about what she did but I also cringed about the fact that it made it into my morning “news” routine…
Here’s the article… The Word: Please make it stop, Jennifer Love Hewitt
…This brings up a perpetual conflict that I have inside when it comes to the subject of women taking the role of huntress…actively pursuing people who spark their interest, “dating like a man” so-to-speak.
I am an A-type personality. My natural instinct is go get what I want. I want to close it down, seal the deal, know where I stand BUT I know that when you are a woman and you go after someone that you want romantically, to the majority of people…you look like a psycho.
When I read this article, I had to ask myself, “Is Jennifer a champion for knowing what she wants and chasing it…or crazy desperate romantic pariah?” I assume it depends on who you ask.
I know I felt a little bit of both.
